Pak army have role in India policy: Abdul Basit

Abdul Basit , High Commissioner of Pakistan

While not denying Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif role on in the country, Pakistan high commissioner to India Abdul Basit yet said that the Pakistani army has equally important role to play in Islamabad's India policy.

As reported in TOI, Basit said that the army had important inputs to give on India, Afghanistan and all other security-related issues.

His reaction came after media reports from Pakistan, according to which Sharif’s civilian government has asked the army to act against terrorist groups.

Basit categorically rejected these reports but said it would be incorrect to expect that the Pakistan army would not have a role on India-related issues.

He qualified his remark by saying even India could not have a Pakistan policy without consulting its armed forces.

He further said that Pakistan is not going to concede any ground on Kashmir. Basit said Islamabad did not want to have a dialogue on the issue "just for the heck of it".
