Naseeruddin Shah turns 67 today

Main stream Indian Cinema or Bollywood has now making its mark on the international front. With newly developed techniques and full focus on acting, it is now no way less than much acclaimed French Cinema.

Bollywood has been able to come so far because of the long hard work and dedication of legends like Raj Kapoor, Rajesh Khanna and so on.

With leading actors and master directors delivering high grossing movies, we cannot forget the work delivered by parallel actors who are less known for their looks but were best known for their work and talent.

One of such actors is Naseeruddin Shah. Born on July 20, 1949, the actor turns 67 today.

Fond of acting, Naseeruddin, got admitted in National School of Drama (NSD), after graduation, to test his luck in acting.

His acting debut came in the form of a cameo in a Pakistani film ‘Khuda Kay Liye’. He also appeared in another Pakistani movie ‘Zinda Bhaag’ that proved to be a blockbuster.

In Bollywood he has worked as a side hero in films like ‘Nishant’,  ‘Aakrosh’, ‘Sparsh’, ‘Mirch Masala’, ‘Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyon Ata Hai’, ‘Trikal’, ‘Bhavni Bhavai’, ‘Junoon’, ‘Mandi’, ‘Mohan Joshi Hazir Ho!’, ‘Ardh Satya’, ‘Katha’ and many more.

He became a part of mainstream cinema with film ‘Hum Panch’ that came in the year 1980.

Also, his role in ‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro’ got much critical appreciation.

With films like ‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro’, ‘A Wednesday’, ‘Karma’ etc, he justifies that why he is called one of the finest actors in Bollywood today.

His achievements are not limited to acting only. Naseeruddin turned director with the 2006 film, ‘Yun Hota To Kya Hota’.

He is a well known figure in Hindi Cinema but has is also popular for his work in Malayalam cinema and is known for critically well acclaimed drama Ponthan Mada.

He has also made his mark in international cinema and has appeared in international films, notably playing Captain Nemo in the Hollywood adaptation The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

Naseeruddin was initially a stage actor and perhaps that is the reason why, he works in many theatre productions even today.

Naseeruddin Shah has been giving performances with his theatre troupe at places such as New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Lahore. He has directed plays written by Lavender Kumar, Ismat Chughtai and Saadat Hasan Manto.

Well, there is no substitute for hard work. The man is the living example who with his hard work and commitment has bagged National Honors such as Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. Apart from many Filmfare Awards, he has also won National Film Award.
