India’s Captain cool turns 35 today and the dishes and praises from fans have been pouring in since midnight on social media. Born July 7, 1981, Dhoni, who took over India's captaincy in 2007, continues to captain the side in limited-overs cricket having hung up his Test whites in December 2014.
Rising from a humble background, he went on to become one of the best captains India ever had. Under his unmatched leadership, India won the maiden 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup along with other series like the 2007 ICC World Twenty20, the CB Series of 2007–08, the 2010 Asia Cup, and the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy.
What sets aside this unarguably talented skipper is his calm demeanour, his ability to make everyone work as a team hence putting the team glory above everyone else. Even in the stressful times and extreme pressure, he manages to keep his calm and keeps playing with patience guiding his team to do the same.
However, when he realises that the overs are running out, he is well capable of getting on the crease and set the scoreboard rolling, earning him the badge of being one of the world’s greatest finishers in limited-overs cricket.
In yet another instance of his brilliant captaincy in 2013, Team India won its first ICC Champions Trophy, which also made MS Dhoni to have all ICC Trophies in his kitty. India entered the final as the only unbeaten team, playing England on home soil and won the match by 5 runs.
On 1 November 2011, the Indian Territorial Army conferred the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel to MS Dhoni. After which he only became the second Indian cricketer following Kapil Dev to receive this prestigious honour.
Apart from cricket, Dhoni is a huge fan of motor vehicles and a car freak. His Hummer H2 is among his favourite rides. His love for bikes has led him to own 23 bikes - of which the Harley Davidson is his top pick.
MS Dhoni has an aura like no other which also makes him one of the most admired captain, cricketer and the greatest skipper of Indian cricket. He has changed the fortunes of Indian cricket under his watchful eye.
