Former Bollywood actress Mamta Kulkarni was on Saturday named as an accused by Thane police in the Ephedrine drug bust case. Ephedrine is a 'controlled substance' which is used in making medicines and also to produce narcotic drug Methamphetamine.
Police will be getting a red corner notice issued in her name to get her back to the country. Kulkarni is currently suspected to be in Kenya along with her partner, alleged drug dealer Vicky Goswami, who too has been named as an accused in the case and is currently out on bail.
Ephedrine, a controlled substance, is an ingredient in medicines used to treat asthma and bronchitis. Any substance that can possibly be used in the production of narcotics is called controlled substance, and it stays under government scrutiny, considering the probability of its misuse.
Thane police have so far arrested 10 persons in the case in which Ephedrine for medicines was being allegedly diverted from the Solapur unit of Avon Lifesciences Limited and sold for making narcotics, including party drug Meth.
Police also stated that Kulkarni’s role was established through statements given by two of the wanted accused with whom she had allegedly held meetings with where the conspiracy to smuggling the drugs was discussed.
