Murderer ‘surrenders’ on WhatsApp

Prime accused in the land surveyor case of murder, Asraf Ali Ikkramulla, announced that he will surrender before Krishnagiri town DSP on June 10. He announced his surrender in an audio clip that went viral on social media.

 
On the morning of May 28, residents of Ramamoorthy Nagar, near Deevattipatti in Salem district, came upon a car that was on fire. The vehicle was stuck in a pit and witnesses saw two people escaping from the burning car.
 
They managed to nab one of them, V Sakthivel, 36, a resident of Vellalapatti in Salem district. They handed him over to Deevattipatty police. Inside the car, police found the body of Kuvalaichezhiyan, 43, a land surveyor for Hosur municipality.
 
The previous day, he had been kidnapped by the accused. On interrogating Sakthivel, police learned that an affair was the motive for the murder. Based on his information, the police arrested six henchmen including D Chinnavar, 21, M Murugan, 23, M Prabhu, 26, R Sidduraj, 21, K Muthu, 26, and A Raja, 30. All of them were from Kitchipalayam, except for Raja who was from Kamalapuram near Omalur.
 
The deceased had been in a relationship with Karthiyayini, a native of Hosur. On Wednesday, the murderer uploaded an audio clip on WhatsApp, stating he would surrender before Krishnagiri town DSP T Kannan on June 10. "I don't know whether I would still be alive," he said.
