Shocking: ‘Udta Punjab’ without ‘Punjab’!
Udta Punjab

‘Udta Punjab’, is an upcoming thriller movie with a star cast including Kareena Kapoor, Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Diljit Dosanj. The film is directed by Abhishek Chaubey.

This film has created a cliff between SAD-BJP alliance government and the opposition after Central Board for Film Certification (CBFC), asked the filmmakers to drop the word ‘Punjab’ from the title of the film ‘Udta Punjab’.

The movie showcases the increasing drug abuse in Punjab. It is also the first Hindi movie to deal with such an issue.

This is the second time that the film has left the board queasy. On May 26, it had objected the excessive use of profanities in the film and sought 89 cuts to give it a 'UA' certificate.

Interestingly, CBFC member Ashoke Pandit has gone against his own colleagues and has said that it is ‘embarking on dangerous territory of hemming creative freedom’.

With assembly elections to be held in Punjab in January 2017 and drugs being an extremely sensitive political subject, politicians seem divided on the impact the film can have on poll results.

As a response, filmmaker, Anurag Kashyap has said that ‘he doesn’t feel any difference between North Korea and India after this incident. He has said that he doesn’t even need to take a flight to go to North Korea now’.

The film's producer Anurag Kashyap told media that ‘if any film is changed slightly, it is Qatl-e-Aam of it. No filmmaker wants to have cuts and leave it at that’

'Udta Punjab' also contains a great deal of abusive language.
