J Jayalalithaa sworn-in as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister for second consecutive term

All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) chief J Jayalalithaa was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for a second consecutive term on Monday. 

 

This is for the first time since the death of former chief minister MG Ramachandra Menon, who is popularly known as MGR, in 1987 that a ruling party has returned to power for a consecutive second term in Tamil Nadu.

 

Tamil Nadu Governor K Rosaiah administered the oath of office to Jayalalithaa at the century old auditorium of the Madras University, which has been decked up for the swearing in ceremony of the Chief Minister and her cabinet colleagues.

 

Union Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu attended the ceremony on behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Central Government. For the first time, the main opposition, DMK Party's treasurer MK Stalin also attended the ceremony.
