First ever female gymnast to qualify for Rio

Dipa Karmakar became the first Indian gymnast to qualify for the Olympics after 52 years and she is the first ever women who secured a place for the Rio Games after a strong performance at the final qualifying and test event.

 

DIipa Karmakar an Indian artistic gymnast from Agartala, Tripura who represents India at the international circuit, bronze medalist at the 2014 Commonwealth Games got herself a position the Olympics. 

 

Since independence, 11 male gymnasts have represented India at the Games (two in 1952, three in 1956 and six in 1964), the record has now been broken of the historic times and it will be an honour to see her performance in the Olympics making India proud.
