Virat Kohli’s (82* off 51 balls) fantastic half-century helped India thrash Australia by six wickets at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali on Sunday to enter World Twenty20 semis.
In reply to Australia’s target of 161 runs, hosts survived a few early setbacks before reaching target with five deliveries to spare.
Match was a virtual quarter-final as the winners qualified the semi-finals.
India finished their group 2 engagements with three wins in four matches. After this match Australia had to content themselves with two wins and an equal number of loses.
From the group, New Zealand had earlier qualified for last 4, while England and West Indies have gone through to semi-finals from Group 1.
Kiwis will face England in first semi-final at Ferozshah Kotla (Delhi) on Wednesday, while India will take on West Indies in second semi-final on Thursday at Wankhede Stadium (Mumbai).
Final will be held at Eden Gardens (Kolkata) next Sunday.
