‘Efforts on to secure release of Indian priest’

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said that government is making efforts to secure release of Indian priest Father Tom Uzhunallil, who was allegedly kidnapped by terror group Islamic State in Yemen.

In a tweet, Swaraj confirmed that Indian priest was kidnapped in the country .

Father Uzhunnalil was reportedly kidnapped earlier this month after four gunmen attacked a retirement home in Aden, which is run by the Missionaries of Charity.

Sixteen people were killed in the attack. Father Uzhunnalil was reportedly kidnapped during the attack, suspected to have been carried out by Islamic States terrorists.

There was a rumour about IS planning to crucify him on Good Friday, but it was rubbished by an order of Catholic priests of Don Bosco on Friday.

“We are not going by false rumours where the origins are unverifiable,” Fr Valarkot was quoted as saying.
