Reliance Jio Infocomm, the telecom venture of Reliance Industries, on Sunday said it has gained 16 million users in the first 26 days of launch of services on September 5.
Since the company had around 3 million users by the time of the welcome offer launch, this means that it has added 13 million users in 26 days, the fastest subscriber addition by any operator so far. “Jio has achieved this growth faster than any other telecom operator or start up in the world including the likes of Facebook, WhatsApp and Skype,” the company said in a statement. It needs to be noted that till December 31, Jio is offering totally free connections and free services where consumers have to pay nothing.
Industry insiders and analysts say that the rate of growth would have been even faster if the consumers would not have faced the teething trouble of large number of call failure because of congestion arising due to lack of points of interconnect given by incumbent operators.

According to Reliance Jio, the company has introduced Aadhaar-based electronic KYC norms for the new users in 3100 cities across the country, which enables a subscriber to get their SIM activated within minutes. “This process will be extended across the country and fully stabilised for satisfactory on-boarding experience in the next few weeks,” the company said.
