WhatsApp once assured its users to maintain privacy in its every aspect. Also it offers complete end-to-end encryption. But the assurance comes out to be false now as iOS security expert Jonathan Zdziarski has claimed that the chats on WhatsApp are never removed even after users have hit the delete button.
Taking side of the app, he said that WhatsApp does not do it purposely but it leaves a trail of forensic trace which can be recovered and is a common problem among any application that uses SQLite.
To test the app, he installed the app and started a few different threads. Then he clicked the button ‘Clear All Chats’. Interestingly, the deletion and archival options did not make any difference in how deleted records were preserved.
He informed that there is only one way to delete the chats completely by removing the app from phone.
Moreover, the problem is only with iOS enabled WhatsApp.
