Kerala Polls: CPI-M faces heat over 'glamour' candidates

Faced with protests over selection of 'celebrities' as candidates for Kerala Assembly elections, CPI-M got a setback after actress K.P.A.C. Lalitha expressed her unwilling to contest polls.

 
Since March 13, when Lalitha's name came up as CPI-M supported candidate for Wadakanachery seat in Thrissur district, there has been an continuing protests against her candidature.
 
Actress had been reportedly commenting that "when a new film is released, there is always a mixed response", before deciding to withdraw her candidature.
 
She told reporters on Monday, that her "health" would not be able to take the strain of being a people's representative.
 
CPI-M is also facing opposition from local cadres against another candidature, television news anchor Veena George in Aranmula constituency in Pathanamthitta district. 
 
There are protests against George's candidature. There have even been some resignations from the party over the issue. 
 
Playing down the issue, party politburo member Pinarayi Vijayan told reporters on Monday that the process of seat allocation was still on.
