TMC Sting op: Speaker asks panel to probe charges

Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan referred issue of some TMC members allegedly accepting bribe, as shown in a purported sting operation, to the Ethics Committee, asking it to examine and investigate the charges.

She made the announcement a day after BJP, Congress and CPI(M ) demanded a probe into the matter.

TMC’s Saugata Roy protested the Speaker’s decision, and said that if it becomes a practice, then anybody would do a sting against members and probe would be ordered on such “unverified” contents.

He, however, also expressed confidence on LK Advani, who is head of Ethics Committee and hoped that probe under veteran BJP member will be fair.

Mahajan, however, rejected his objections, saying such a reference to the Ethics Committee had been made on previous occasions also.
