West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee on Friday fielded footballers Baichung Bhutia and Rahim Nabi, cricketer Lakshmi Ratan Shukla and actor Soham Chatterjee for April's Assembly polls in the state.
The CM also announced the names of 45 women candidates and 57 candidates from minority communities for Bengal polls, which will be held in six phase, starting from April April 4.
In last Assembly polls in 2011, she had fielded 31 women candidates and 38 minorities, but increased numbers of such candidates this time.
Surprisingly, Mamata also announced the name of Saradha-tainted Madan Mitra for the Kamarhati seat even though later is in jail right now.
The CM also announced the name of Jangmohan Dalmiya’s daughter Baishali for Bally assembly seat.
She has released her list for all the 294 assembly seats as unlike last time, Congress is no longer a poll partner of TMC this time.
In 2011, TMC alone had won 184 of the total 294 seats in the state polls.
