Uproar in Rajya Sabha over Irani's remark

 The Rajya Sabha on Friday witnessed an uproar over HRD Minister Smriti Irani's remark on Goddess Durga, with Opposition parties demanding an apology from her.

 
"We demand apology from the minister and that the portion about Durga should be removed from the records," Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad, said.
 
"She must apologise for what she said about Goddess Durga, it is blasphemous," his party colleague Anand Sharma added on the floor of the House.
 
The minister retorting saying her comments in the Upper House were made on accuracy of facts.
 
"The documents I read yesterday were official documents from the University.  These are not documents of the Government. I am a practicing Hindu and was pained to read out the pamphlet on Goddess Durga," Irani said.
 
While, the House Deputy Chairman, P J Kurien intervened to ease the atmosphere, saying he would go through the record and would erase said statements.
