Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav broke down at a key meeting of Samajwadi Party. In the party SP Supreme Mulayam Singh Yadav called the leaders to discuss the situation in party.
The chief minister said he is not forming a new party, dismissing speculation that the party is headed for a split just before assembly elections in the state.
Not long before the CM arrived, his supporters clashed with supporters of Shivpal Yadav, his uncle and the Samajwadi Party's Uttar Pradesh chief, outside the party office.
Earlier it was decided that Mulayam Singh has called the meeting to discuss plans to celebrate 25 years of the party he founded.
But after yesterday's dramatic events, the leader is expected to make an announcement to settle the crisis that has engulfed the Samajwadi Party as his son Akhilesh and brother Shivpal Yadav have warred.
On Sunday, Akhilesh Yadav fired Shivpal Yadav as a minister in his government for the second time in a month. It was seen as a direct challenge to his father, who has been promoting Shivpal over him.
