With a view to promote renewable sources of energy and to achieve State’s target to generate solar power, the Haryana Power DISCOMs, (Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited and Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited) have made arrangements to generate 165 MW solar power for the year 2016-17.

Mr Nitin Yadav, Managing Director, UHBVN said on January 13 that under State’s Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO) as notified by Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission, the Haryana DISCOMs are perusing development of projects based on solar power. For this Haryana Power Purchase Center (HPPC) on behalf of DISCOMs had invited bids to provide power produced from solar plants in Haryana and finalized 165 MW of solar power from different solar power projects to be installed in the State at a fixed tariff for a period of 25 years. At present the Haryana has installed capacity of 12.8 MW of solar power.

He added that in order to promote energy conservation and to provide sustainable and affordable energy to the consumers, the State requires increased focus on renewable energy sector. In addition to these solar power projects, the Haryana DISCOMs are also facilitating the proliferation of solar rooftop projects with net metering scheme.
