SC to hear plea for Governor's rule in J&K
Stating that the whole of Jammu and Kashmir was paralysed in the wake of the ongoing protests, a petition seeking the imposition of Governor's rule in the state was filed in the Supreme Court of India on Friday.

The petition filed by the J&K Panthers Panther's party stated that life had come to a standstill in the wake of the protests. Since the state machinery has failed to curb the violence and there is no solution in sight, it would be better if the rule of the governor is imposed, petition stated.

The Bench then suggested to the petitioner that the Jammu and Kashmir High Court would be in a better position to decide on the matter as it would be able to assess and appreciate the ground situation.

The petitoner however, continued to insist that the case be taken up by the Supreme Court. While, the SC believed that the Jammu and Kashmir HC should hear the matter, the petitioner continued to persist and said that SC had wider powers and could issue a strong directive in this matter.

The SC then agreed to list the matter for hearing next week. Kashmir has been on the boil and has witnessed violent protests since the death of Hizbul Mujahideen commander, Burhan Wani.

Curfew has been imposed in the state and life has been paralysed for nearly two weeks now. The government's attempts to pacify the protestors too has failed.
