Maharashtra Poll Panel Deregisters 191 Political Parties as these parties failed to submit income tax returns

Owaisi barred from contesting civic polls

The State Election Commission (SEC) of Maharashtra, deregistered 191 local political parties. The commission conducts local body polls in the state.

 

According to the reports, the deregistered parties were allegedly failed to submit their Income Tax returns and audited accounts to the regulator basis and cannot contest the upcoming civic body elections in Mumbai.

 

The 191 political parties include Asaduddin Owaisi's party India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen (AIMIM) too. These parties were derecognized because they failed to submit the necessary documents, State Election Commissioner J S Saharia said.

 

According to Saharia, the same notices were served to 326 parties. So far, 359 political parties have been registered with the Commission. Of these, 17 were already recognized parties, said the Commissioner.
