Monsoon hits Kerala, one dead in heavy rains

 The much-awaited monsoon reached Kerala on Wednesday with heavy rains claiming a life after a landslip in Idukki district.

 
As per Santosh, head of the India Meteorological Department's regional centre in Thiruvananthapuram, monsoon has set in over Kerala and Lakshadweep.
 
Some parts of Kerala have been receiving heavy rains since last night. Department had said earlier  that monsoon was likely to hit the state  on June 9.
 
Former SFI Idukki district president Jobi John died and his mother was injured when mounds of earth and rocks fell on their home following heavy rains at Vazhavara on Wednesday morning, police said.
 
Thiruvananthapuram district officials are taking protective measures like restricting flow of tourists to hill stations like Ponmudi due to heavy rains.
