Patidar stir: Curfew lifted from Gujarat district

Gujarat Government on Monday lifted Section 144 (power to issue order in urgent cases of nuisance of apprehended danger) of the Code of Criminal Procedure which was imposed in Gujarat's Mehsana.

It was imposed after a clash broke out between members of Patidar community and police, during their 'Jail Bharo Andolan', demanding their leader Hardik Patel’s release.

Because of  violence which erupted in parts of Gujarat after a huge Patel community rally in Mehsana and 'Gujarat Bandh' call given by some Patel groups, state government deployed Rapid Action Force (RAF) in Ahmedabad, Mehsana and Surat and stepped up security in others places.

The Sardar Patel Group (SPG) as well as Hardik Patel-led Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) have given a call for 'Gujarat Bandh'.

On Sunday, a massive rally of Patidarcommunity demanding reservation and release of their jailed leaders turned violent in Mehsana, as mob resorted to arson and stone pelting. Violence quickly spread in other cities like Surat and Ahmedabad.
