Following criticism from all quarters over the increase in the number of malnutrition cases in the state, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed all the departments to make a new nutrition policy in the next 15 days.
Several departments like Health, women and child, tribal welfare, rural development and food and civil supplies are implementing different schemes related to malnutrition in the state, and after the High Court recently came down heavily on the government for its failure to curb this menace, the government has felt the need to relook at drawing a new policy.
Fadnavis in a meeting via video conference with the collectors of the district where this problem is rampant has asked officials of all related depts to discuss & unitedly frame comprehensive nutrition policy for state within 15 days. Ministers Girish Bapat, Dr Deepak Sawant, Vishnu Sawra and Vidya Thakur were present too in this meeting. Collectors from Nagar, Palghar, Gadchiroli, Nashik, Nandurbar, Amravati, Thane & Yavatmal attended this meeting via video conferencing. More than 254 children succumbed to malnutrition in Palghar district alone while 195 foetal deaths were recorded till date this year.
Fadnavis has also asked to speedily fill the vacant posts of health department, it was pointed out that there is major crunch in the health centers in these rural areas where malnutrition is rampant.
