Jewellers have a reason to smile as consumers rushed to buy gold and silver ornaments on the auspicious day of Dhanteras and shopped for around Rs 40 crores.
Businessmen have reported a turnover of around Rs 40 crore on Dhanteras. Jewellery stores reported more rush particularly towards the evening. Gold and silver jewellery and diamonds are much in demand on the day of Dhanteras.
The price of the precious metal was recorded at Rs 30,600 per 10g on Dhanteras as against Rs 26,200 per 10g on the same day last year. The price of silver was recorded at Rs 44,000 per kilogram on Friday as against Rs 36,500 per kilogram the same day last year.
President of the Jewellers' Association in Nashik, said, "We saw very good business on Dhanteras as compared to last year. Jewellery stores across the city were jam-packed throughout the day. People prefer buying gold jewellery on Dhanteras, while for Padva, they buy gold bars or coins."
Bhavna Patil, a housewife said, "We buy silver every year on Dhanteras. I bought silver on the Dhanteras to perform puja on this auspicious day."
There are around 5,000 small and large jewellery businesses across the district, with around 1,000 shops across the city. The city's major jewellery hub, Saraf Baaar, boasts of 250 shops.
