Six lakh workers join Congress in UP

Over six lakh workers have joined the Congress over the year. It is good sign for the old party in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh.

Experts are considering it the work of party’s strategist Prashant Kishor. Since Kishor is on board, party seems to be settling in UP.

According to a source in the party, after Kishor was brought in, he asked Congress leaders to create booth-level committees.

These committees are created for over 1.2 lakh booths across the 75 districts in the state, the source said.

The party, which has received over 7,000 applications for tickets to 405 assembly seats, had asked potential candidates to "prove their worth" by enlisting new workers into its ranks.

"The situation was so bad that we had started to lose workers in almost every district. But now our position is stable and growing," a Congress leader said.
