China and Pak together blunt India's NSG bid

While India raised the issue of diplomatic offensive against Pakistan over the issue of continuous terrorism activities, China has again signaled that it will continue to use Islamabad as a counterpoise against India's bid for membership of Nuclear Supplies Group.

Last week, China held another round of Arms Control Consultation with Pakistan in which it discussed Islamabad's application for NSG membership and also indicated on placing Pakistan's views and inputs to the group for consideration.

The China-Pakistan dialogue comes within days of India's substantive talks with Beijing on its NSG bid. According to Chinese authorities, Beijing shared with Pakistan its views on recent developments and also its principled position over the issue of participation of non-NPT countries in the NSG.

Like in the case of Sino-Indian NSG talks with India, the Chinese communication via statement by the Chinese embassy in Pakistan too says it will bring the view of Islamabad to the NSG. China's assurance shows Beijing's use of Pakistan to blunt India's campaign for membership.
