The Supreme Court gave Centre four weeks' time on Monday to file its response on the right of Muslim women in matrimonial matters related to divorce and maintenance, including triple talaq.

It gave the time on the request of Solicitor General Ranjit Kumar.

Solicitor General had requested for time mentioning that the Centre had to file its response to a suo motu writ appeal filed on the direction of Supreme Court on issue of Muslim women’s right in matrimonial matters.

All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) had in its response stood by polygamy and triple talaq saying that courts have no jurisdiction to examine the issue as it is connected to their religion based on the Quran and Sharia law.
