Cricketer turned politician and former BJP MP Navjot Singh Sidu has finally put an end to speculations of joining Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Punjab by forming a new front with ex-hockey player Pargat Singh and Bains brothers ahead of Assembly Elections in the state. The new party is named Aawaaz-e-Punjab.
Sidhu, who had stunned everyone by resigning from the Rajya Sabha on the opening day of the Monsoon Session on July 18, has formed the party with former hockey captain Pargat Singh and Bains brothers.
Meanwhile, a news agency has quoted Sidhu's wife Navjot Kaur as saying that the new front will be against those working against Punjab.
The announcement of the new party is as surprising as Sidhu's decision to quit Rajya Sabha.
Last month, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had said that Sidhu had not put any pre-conditions on joining the AAP and needed time to think over the issue.
Reports had said that Navjot Singh Sidhu wanted the AAP to project him as the chief ministerial candidate; however the party was reluctant to do so.
