Bottle gourd, simply known as ‘lauki’ in India has some of the very useful facilities that people are in need of today. It has properties that may help in fighting cancer.
According to a study conducted on mice, latex sap or juice in the vegetable was able to destroy cancerous tumuli in mice. Scientists found that the juice does not only destroy cancerous tumuli but also prevent the formation of new ones.
Scientists say that bottle gourd contains lectins that stop the growth of new blood vessels.
According to the study, cancer cells get nutrition from new blood vessels more likely than the older ones, once the growth of new blood vessels stop, there can be reduction in multiplication of cancer cells. It happens because most of the tumours do not grow without a newly formed blood vessel.
Interestingly, cancer is seeing its counterpart in kitchens rather than in chemistry and biology labs. Earlier as well, spices such as turmeric, cinnamon, ginger and coriander were found to be containing anti-cancerous properties.
