‘No environment clearances needed for temporary events’

With NGT giving green signal for a three-day cultural programme of Art of Living Foundation on floodplains of Yamuna, Centre has said such temporary functions 'do not' require environment clearances.

‘No environment clearances needed for temporary events’

With the National Green Tribunal giving green signal for a three-day cultural programme of Art of Living Foundation on floodplains of Yamuna, Centre has said such temporary functions or structures "do not" require environment clearances.

 
Temporary structures do not require environmental clearances under the environmental law and environment notification, Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadedar has said.
 
In middle of raging row over environmental degradation, body on Wednesday gave its assent cultural event scheduled to begin from March 11, but rewarded a fine of Rs 5 crore on AOL as environmental compensation.
 
Tribunal also slapped fine of Rs five lakh on Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and Rs one lakh on Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) for not discharging statutory functions.
 
More than 35 lakh people are expected to arrive at the event.
