Karnataka HC orders PCBs to check noise pollution
In response to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) regarding ban on pressure horns and defective silencers in vehicles of all kinds, the Karnataka High Court has ordered both state and central pollution control boards to keep a check on this issue.

The petitioner, Mohan Krishna filed PIL claiming that the noise pollution generated from vehicles’ horns is posing a serious problem for his and the other residents of his locality.

Apart from seeking ban on pressure horns and defective silencers, the petitioner also seeks to reduce vehicle horn coupled with vehicle movement noise decibels to the prescribed standards as per Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000.

Seeking issuance of certificates to vehicles owners after meeting the noise level standards, he also requests to charge heavy fines of Rs 5000 on the people without the certificate.
