Centre has given green signal to make the Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) report of modernization project of Chennai Airport (Phase II) by Airport Authority of India that will take place to improve the existing amenities for travelers at the Airport. 
The project is worth Rs 2587 crore and involves 1301.28 acres of land and focus on improving old Terminals of the airport. 
The Terms of Reference (ToR) of the EIA project were discussed in meeting of Expert Appraisal Committee held by Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) on September 21 and 22. 
It was made mandatory to consider ToR while preparing EIA report for the mentioned project.  
The draft of the report will be submitted to the State Pollution Control Board for public hearing.
The Committee also suggested making a note on appropriate materials and processes to be undertaken in order to reduce carbon footprint, emission, effluents, solid waste and hazardous waste generation and their management. 
Also, it recommended carrying out air quality and noise modeling for the emissions from various types of aircraft.
