Supreme Court of Friday stayed the National Green Tribunal order mandating environment clearance for Delhi Metro’s construction in the Noida line.
NGT recently held back the metro construction project saying it could not go on without environment clearances.
NGT had also ruled that Indian Railways and DMRC both should also concern about environmental protection and took clearances for the projects.
According to PTI report, Justices S Thakur and A M Khanwilkar agreed that the order of the Tribunal was erroneous.
The apex court also stated that NGT order would delay the developmental projects if the Delhi Metro and Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India were forced to seek clearances from the Ministry of Environment and Forest.
Earlier the environment ministry had told the NGT that railway and Metro rail projects are not within the purview of 2006 Environmental Impact Assessment Notification.
