Non-forest activity not allowed until new policy comes
The Ministry of Environment and Forest (MoEF) has told state government that any non-forest activity in private forests should no be allowed without clearance under Forest Act of 1980.  
 
 
The minister added by saying that felling of trees under the Goa, Daman and Diu Preservation of Tree Act, 1984 is not recommended in identified private forest areas, he added. 
 
 
State Forest Minister Arlekar that draft of a policy on private forests has been formulated and the guidelines and directions from MoEF are awaited.
 
 
The minister said that after obtaining the comments and guidelines from the Ministry, the draft Private Forest Management Policy will be framed and circulated for public comments.
 
 
Also, the minister has requested Union Ministry to to re-examine and formulate necessary guidelines, so that the management policy for private forests can be finalised.
