In order to attempt this world record, various departments of the government participated in this ambitious drive. the saplings included a variety of species from fruit-bearing trees to medicinal plants which were planted all across the city in more than 6,100 sites.
Around 610,000 saplings were planted in Kanpur alone. In Moradabad city, around 6,000 saplings were planted in Deer Park and lawns of Uttar Pradesh Provincial Armed Constabulary.
Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav inaugrated and also paid a visit to the command centre to moniter the drive. He also highlighted the need to address environmental issues to provide safer environment to the coming generations.
The target was achieved by Monday evening itself so whatever was planted on Tuesday counted as bonus making this the biggest plantation exercise undertaken anywhere in the world.
