Minister of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has launched supercomputer, Param-Ishan on Tuesday in IIT Guwahati.
Param-Ishan is claimed to be super computer because it has power of 250 Teraflops and capacity of 300 terabytes.
The computer used for Computational Chemistry, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Computational Electromagnetics, Civil Engineering Structures, Nana-block Self Assemble, Optimisation, Weather and climate modeling, Seismic data processing can be further used for creating an ecosystem for attracting the right talent to the field of research.
The computer has been introduced in the premises of IIT Guwahati as it believed that despite being some of the premier institutes of technology in the world, the IITs fail to match the standard of other universities.
Basically, it is launched to impart practical knowledge because textual knowledge is not enough for an institution in overall growth.
According to HRD Minister Javadekar, IITs are called ‘modern temples for development’ and several technology areas will be positively affected through the introduction of the new supercomputer.
Nevertheless, these super computers are also expected to be introduced in institutes across the country.
