'Pearl Academy to Shut Down': UGC

University Grants Commission (UGC) has asked the very famous Delhi-based fashion and management institute Pearl Academy, to shut down all his centres that are in Jaipur, Noida and Mumbai.

UGC has taken such a step as a result of receipt of various complaints about various universities providing joint degrees with foreign universities which is completely illegal.

Pearl Academy is one of such universities and has been providing joint degrees with Nottingham Trent University (NTU) of Britain.

According to UGC, Pearl Academy is not eligible of giving any degree by itself or with collaboration with any university as it is not a 'university' as per 1956 law.

Moreover, any domestic university that wants to collaborate with any foreign university, needs a prior approval of UGC that the Pearl Academy lacks.

However, the CEO of Pearl Academy, Sharad Mehra, has refused to speak on this issue and has claimed that the institute has been providing excellent education for more than two decades.
