Institute of Mass Communication, better known as IIMC is all set to start a service to promote setting up a community radio (CR) from this year onwards. The institute is also planning to provide consultancy and training in community radio.
The decision was taken in a meeting at the executive council of the institute on June 21, 2016.
In the meeting, chaired by the secretary of information and broadcasting and the Chairman of IIMC Ajay Mittal, the Chairman mentioned that many institutes in the country have received the license for running CR, but lack in the ability to run the same professionally.
So the decision is taken to provide knowledge on setting up and running of community radios in the particular areas.
For that, the institute needs to purchase the equipment and hiring expert manpower to offer consultancy and training on Community Radio.
Apart from Ajay Mittal, Director General KG Suresh, also present in the meeting said that, the expertise of Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) can be efficiently used in training HR on community radio.
