Centre has cleared sale of BrahMos supersonic cruise missile to Vietnam.
Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar began his five-day visit to Singapore and Vietnam from Friday. As per ‘India Today’ report, main highlight of visit would be discussions on sale of BrahMos missiles to Vietnam.
BrahMos is a supersonic anti-ship missile, which has been developed by New Delhi and Moscow jointly.
While the current BrahMos launch vehicles are surface and aircraft based, India is testing a submarine-launch version that could possibly be used in Vietnam's Kilo-class submarines
The report quoted defence sources as saying that both PM Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar were of the view of exporting missile system to Vietnam
However, Beijing has expressed objections against any plans by New Delhi to supply weapons to Vietnam
China and Vietnam are locked in a face-off over maritime boundaries in the South China Sea.
