Ex-chief justice of India, Justice H.L. Dattu, on Monday joined National Human Rights Commission of India as the new chairperson.
He is the seventh Chairperson of the commission.
Justice Dattu had retired as CJI on December 2, 2015.
He was associated with several important judgments. He was on the bench that expanded the Indian jurisprudence on death sentence cases by altering the death penalty of terror convict Devinder Pal Singh Bhullar to life term over mental illness and an excessive delay in deciding his mercy plea by the Centre.
