National Intelligence Grid has got a new chief in the face of Ashok Patnaik, senior IPS officer. The post was vacant since May 2014.
Interestingly, the officer is married to former Indian PM, Manmohan Singh’s daughter.
The project was set up after the attacks of 26/11 and is the Rs 3,400-crore project is a data transfer tool that aims at providing a complete profile of a suspect in terror-related cases.
Apart from this, the agency also, holds information related to banks, credit cards, cellphone usage, immigration records, motor vehicle registrations, Income Tax records and National Crime Bureau records that can help investigating agencies solve a case.
A word about Patnaik; the officer is 1983 IPS officer that belongs to Gujarat cadre. His appointment as CEO of the agency will be effective from the date of assumption and will end by December 31, 2018 which happens to be his date of retirement.
