Two IFS women officers appointed envoys

Two Indian Foreign Service (IFS) women officers K. Nandini Singla and Shubhdarshini Tripathi have been appointed as Indian ambassadors in different countries.

While Singla(a 1997 batch officer), who is presently  Joint Secretary in Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), has been appointed envoy to Portugal, Tripathi (a 1994 batch officer), presently Deputy Chief of Mission in Berlin, has been asked to take charge in Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan

After PM's visit to Belgium,  MEA has decided to appoint deputy chief of mission in Brussels.

Brussels houses headquarters of the European Union, therefore post is considered very significant.

Government wants empaneled joint secretary-ranked officers to apply for the post which comes under the ministry of commerce, and not MEA.

Centre has asked chief secretaries of states and secretaries of union ministries and departments to nominate appropriate officers for the post.
