While the Kharif Marketing Season (KMS) is still ongoing, already the government agencies have procured 3740.47 metric tonnes of pulses as on October 2.
Also, the Central government has directed FCI and NAFED to procure kharif pulses from the farmers to ensure MSP for their crops for which the agencies have set up 417 procurement centres in pulses producing states. This is done to ensure their reach to the farm gates for procurement of Moong and Urad. More centres will be set up if required on the arrival of Tur crop.
Already, FCI has procured 1075.34 metric tonnes whereas NAFED has acquired 2665.13 metric tonnes pulses since the arrival of Kharif pulses during ongoing KMS 2016-17.
Nevertheless, the government has set up the target of 50,000 metric tonnes kharif pulses to be procured during current KMS for its buffer stock.
