Condemning the suicide of 5000 farmers between 2002 and 2012, congress has referred it ‘shocking’ to have such a number of suicides in a country, especially Gujarat known for agriculture.
Abhishek Manu Singhvi, spokesperson of Congress has said that the agitation in Surat, Gujarat, was a manifestation of long simmering discontent among the farmers in Gujarat, which is the home state of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Adding to that, he said that growth in the agriculture is the hallmark of this government and also these suicides have been very alarming in Gujarat.
He also gave a reason in support of his statement by saying that agriculture production in Gujarat is -2.7 per cent which is a main reason behind such a number of suicides in Gujarat. Also there is a neglect of agriculture in Gujarat.
The importance of this resentment is the economic divide and philosophy of the ruling NDA. The Supreme Court has expressed dismay that corporate loans are being written off by banks, and since 2013-14 Rs 1, 14,000 crore of corporate loans have been written off, Sanghvi told media.
Also, he said that the agitators have vowed to not let the lotus bloom in 2017 elections.
